Representing our members’ interests at the Labour Party Conference
Prospect General Secretary Mike Clancy and Prospect colleagues attended the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool this week, representing the interests of members across all our sectors through engagement with politicians and senior stakeholders.

Prospect also hosted a number of panel discussions across the four days of the event.
Making Work Pay for Freelancers
Philippa Childs, head of Bectu, spoke on the panel ‘Making Work Pay for Freelancers’, which also featured representatives from Community Union, the Fabians, and the Deputy Political Editor of the Times.
Philippa spoke about the importance of extending rights at work to self-employed and freelance workers.

Employment Rights Bill
Prospect also hosted a panel discussion on the Employment Rights Bill, where Mike Clancy spoke on the panel alongside the new Employment Rights Minister, Kate Dearden MP.
Mike raised the work we have been doing with the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development on improving industrial relations and making sure trade unions and employers are working in partnership with each other to improve working conditions across the economy.

Delivering growth
Our final panel event featured a discussion on how the Government can support good business and deliver growth, where Mike spoke again alongside the Employment Rights Minister, Kate Dearden MP and a representative from Orsted.
He pressed the Government and business on the importance of working with trade unions on the economic growth agenda.
Climate Jobs UK reception

On the final night of conference, we also hosted a reception for our joint campaign with the GMB Union, Climate Jobs UK. The reception was full of politicians, businesses, trade union representatives and other key stakeholders.
We were also joined by the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband MP, who gave a speech in which he praised the campaign and the hard work of Prospect members working in the energy sector.
As well as these events, senior representatives from Prospect spoke on panels and roundtables throughout the conference on a range of themes including the creative industries, the nuclear industry, net zero, the tech and broadband industries, and the defence sector.
