Solutions in Levelling Up paper fall far short of the scale of the challenge identified

Mike Clancy, General Secretary of Prospect, responding to the Levelling Up White Paper, said:

“The Levelling Up White Paper is a welcome statement of ambition but it needs far more detail about how this ambition will be funded or a plan that is up to the scale of the challenge and the tasks it identifies.

“What we need is a clear plan to deliver access to good quality work, provide security, income for communities and a career opportunities for young people – but businesses and workers want concrete promises on which they can actually base future plans.

“The challenge now for the government is to build on its rhetoric of a Green Industrial Revolution, of a National Shipbuilding Strategy and of new nuclear generation with a clear plan that will deliver the jobs and prosperity so many areas of Britain are crying out for.”
