Prospect’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratory Branch Conference was held over two constructive and forward-focused days in Bournemouth, bringing together branch representatives and members to review current priorities, share member concerns and plan for the future of Dstl representation.

The event followed a structured agenda of updates, working sessions and open discussions, enabling branch officers and reps to exchange practical experiences and strengthen coordination across the branch.

Key themes included member engagement, evolving workplace challenges and preparations for future negotiations and organisational change from Dstl’s inclusion in the National Armaments Director Group (NADG.)

One focal point of the conference was the attendance of Assistant National Secretary for Defence, Ian Perth, who met with representatives to listen directly to concerns and emerging issues affecting members connected with the NADG.

His session focused on absorbing frontline feedback and ensuring that national-level work remains grounded in member experience.

“It is essential that the Prospect NADG group team stays closely connected to the real concerns of Dstl members. The discussions here have been practical, candid and highly valuable. What I’ve heard over these two days will directly inform how we take forward work around the NADG and wider defence priorities,” said Ian.

Also attending was Prospect General Secretary Mike Clancy, who addressed branch representatives on a wide range of union matters, including national strategy, industrial relations developments and the broader outlook for members across the defence sector. His contribution prompted strong engagement and thoughtful discussion from delegates.

Representatives left with clearer priorities, strengthened networks and a shared commitment to supporting Dstl members in the period ahead.
