The UK government has been looking at nuclear funding options for years now but the clock is ticking

Prospect has responded to the Prime Minister’s spokesperson saying that the UK Government would be looking at funding options for Sizewell C nuclear power station.

Sue Ferns, Prospect senior deputy general secretary, said:

“Downing Street is right to say that nuclear is critical to meeting net zero, that’s why it is so frustrating that we have had years of delay and indecision from government over funding models.

“The UK government has been looking at the options for years now. But all the while the clock is ticking on meeting our Net Zero obligations and filling the gap left by the retirement of existing nuclear plants.

“It’s high time the government stopped looking and got on with a clear, long-term energy policy that includes direct investment in new nuclear capacity”.
