Video puts the workers’ case for new nuclear

11 November 2020

Prospect has launched a new video today setting out the workforce case for building new nuclear power generation.

The video was produced alongside Unite and the GMB as well as EDF who operate our existing nuclear power stations as well as building a new plant at Hinkley Point C.

The video which features union members giving their personal views, aims to set out the employment and economic benefits of new nuclear, and its role in getting to net zero. The unions are advocating for a roll out of a complete new generation of plants, to help power an extensively electrified low carbon authority.

The video can be viewed here.

Sue Ferns, senior deputy general secretary of Prospect said:

“The case for new nuclear is compelling, to meet our obligations to hit Net Zero, to power the mass electrification of our economy and make sure we are not left reliant on energy imports.

“It is also vital to our economic recovery – delivering good, skilled, unionised jobs right around the country for decades to come.

“The government needs to urgently approve Sizewell C keep the momentum from Hinkley Point C going and as the next step in a whole generation of new build nuclear power stations.”
