Closing the Fast Stream underlines the overall folly of pursuing up to 40% cuts in the Civil Service

31 May 2022

Prospect has responded to the reported closure of the Civil Service Fast Stream to new entrants.

Mike Clancy, General Secretary said: “Closing the Fast Stream would be a terrible decision, but it is one that underlines the overall folly of pursuing up to 40% cuts in the Civil Service. “The Fast Stream trains many of the future leaders of the Civil Service, and makes sure it can recruit some of the best talent in this area. “The Civil Service also needs talented technical and scientific specialists to deliver public services. Losing them would be just damaging. “The only way for the Government to avoid serious problems for our public services is to abandon these reckless and damaging plans for Civil Service cuts, across the board.”
