Increase in the budget for Contracts for Difference shows government realised that they could not afford another failed auction round

Sue Ferns, Senior Deputy General Secretary of Prospect union, responding to the announcement of the Contracts of Difference, Auction Round 6 budget, said:

“This significant increase in the budget for Contracts for Difference, is something that unions and industry have been lobbying for, and shows that the government realised that they could not afford another failed auction round.

“Fixing the Contracts for Difference programme alone will not be enough to deliver clean power by 2030, this will need a proper industrial strategy and plan for skills.

“Today’s first meetings of the onshore wind task force and the clean power mission boards are initial important steps to putting this structure in place.”
