One of the primary causes of delays in planning is underfunding of regulators

Responding to the Corry Review, Sue Ferns, Senior Deputy General Secretary of Prospect trade union, said:

“Our expert environmental regulators are essential enablers of sustainable development, but also do a vital job safeguarding our natural environment which must not be forgotten.

“It is right to explore ways to streamline the planning process and speed up development which are consistent with our environmental objectives.

“One of the primary causes of delays in the planning system is the systematic underfunding of these regulators by the last government. Resolving this in the spending review is an important step towards ensuring we have the fully staffed agencies we need to implement this new approach.”
