Prospect calls for investment in air traffic control following NATS report

Responding to the publication of the preliminary NATS incident report, Prospect General Secretary Mike Clancy said:

“The first and upmost responsibility of air traffic control is to maintain safety. This report confirms the undoubted professionalism of Prospect members in NATS who made sure safety was maintained throughout this incident.

“The howls of outrage from Ryanair and other airlines are utterly unconvincing when they have been systematically campaigning to defund air traffic control to protect their own profits. It also hugely disrespects the professionalism of air traffic controllers, engineers and others who work day-in-day-out making sure the skies are safe.

“The focus now from government and the CAA must be on improving resilience and driving investment, working in partnership with staff in NATS and their union.”
