Prospect gains recognition for air traffic controllers at NIAL
In September Prospect has gained recognition for its members working as Air Traffic Controllers (including watch managers and deputy watch managers) at Newcastle International Airport Ltd (NIAL).
The employer had previously refused to recognise Prospect due to an existing recognition agreement with Unison. However, following discussions between Prospect and the airport an agreement has been reached.
The agreement signed by Prospect, NIAL, Unison and Unite, also brings Prospect into the existing employee engagement structures including the Joint Negotiation and Consultation Committee and the pay talks.
David Avery, Prospect National Secretary, said:
“This recognition agreement is a victory for common sense and for our members’ campaign.
“People working in air traffic control face very specific and different issues to those elsewhere in the airport so this was always the most desirable outcome.
“We thank NIAL for accepting the logic of recognising Prospect for this group of workers and we look forward to working with them to our members’ and the airport’s mutual benefit.”
