Prospect strengthens voice for RAF workers with new recognition agreement

18 September 2026

Prospect has secured union recognition for staff at several Royal Air Force sites across the UK. The recognition follows an agreement with Ascent Flight Training and covers rotary wing operations planners and operations schedulers. These members coordinate and schedule flying operations, helping to ensure military training activities run safely and effectively. The agreement means Prospect can negotiate with Ascent Flight Training, on behalf of these workers on issues such as pay, hours and holidays.

The agreement builds on Prospect’s existing relationship with Ascent, where the union is recognised and represents flying instructors at the company’s Cranwell site in England.  Ascent have trained generations of military pilots and aircrew and by working with them, Prospect is helping ensure a strong future for military aviation.

Prospect Negotiations Officer Nik Males said:

“Our members at Ascent do incredibly important work to keep the country’s RAF sites running smoothly, including managing helicopter flight schedules, coordinating training and ensuring safety compliance.

“This is just one of a series of agreements that Prospect has secured in the aviation sector recently. As Prospect influence grows, more aviation workers can have a greater say over their pay, terms and conditions and we can build a safer, fairer and more sustainable aviation sector.

We look forward to working with Ascent and our new members to make the agreement a success.”
