To get the benefits of renewable energy government needs to get a grip on skills and investment

14 June 2023

The Offshore Wind Industry Council has published a skills report which shows we need a further 70,000 jobs in offshore wind by 2030.

The report says that to manage the expected offshore wind project pipeline, the industry needs to be able to attract and retain an average of 10,000 people per year.

Sue Ferns, Senior Deputy General Secretary of Prospect, said:

“If Britain wants to seize the economic benefits of renewable energy government needs to get a grip on the skills and investment crisis facing the sector.

“As this report shows, the huge potential of offshore wind to support good green jobs across the country will only be realised with investment in the skills to provide the additional 10,000 workers needed each year between now and 2030.”
