Prospect reaches recognition deal with Great British Energy
Great British Energy (GBE) has today announced that it has recognised Prospect as the trade union for all its staff.

GBE is the new public energy company set up by the Labour government, and has been scaling up its operations in recent months as it prepares to play a major role in supporting the energy transition by supporting public and private sector investment into energy and ultimately by owning and operating its own projects.
GBE is based in Aberdeen in Scotland, with some staff also based in Edinburgh and in London.
GBE encourages private sector companies to work with and recognise trade unions, and is following through on this by striking this agreement with Prospect.
The news follows Prospect winning recognition at sister organisation Great British Energy- Nuclear last year.
Prospect National Secretary for Scotland Richard Hardy said:
“Great British Energy is set to play a major role in the energy transition in Scotland and across the country, and we are proud to be representing the staff doing this important work.
“Prospect has a long history representing both energy workers and civil servants, so are ideally placed to be the voice of workers at GBE.
“We look forward to working with staff and with GBE to ensure that GBE sets the standard for working conditions in the sector.”
Prospect Senior Deputy General Secretary Sue Ferns OBE said:
“The government have been clear that they want and expect energy companies to recognise trade unions, and it is welcome that GBE are following through on that commitment with this deal.”
Great British Energy CEO Dan McGrail said:
“This agreement with Prospect reflects how we want to build Great British Energy and sends a clear message that our employee voices are central to how we operate and grow.
“We want our people to feel heard and supported, and we want to demonstrate that strong industrial relations and effective delivery go hand in hand.”
